About The BeltLine

If you’ve spent any time in Atlanta, you’ve probably heard someone say, “Let’s take it to the BeltLine.” But what is the BeltLine exactly—and why is everyone obsessed with it? Whether you’re brand new to the city or just need a refresher, we’ve got you. Here’s the lowdown on ATL’s most iconic trail and why it’s way more than just a place to walk your dog.

Atlanta’s BeltLine is where the city’s past meets its future—a reimagined 22‑mile loop of multi‑use trails, parks, art, and culture that connects 45 neighborhoods across the city  . What began in the late 1800s as a rail belt surrounding downtown Atlanta has been transformed into a vibrant corridor for walking, biking, skating, dining, and more. Inspired by a vision in Ryan Gravel’s 1999 master’s thesis, the BeltLine officially kicked off in 2005 with the formation of Atlanta BeltLine, Inc.  . Since then, nearly half the trail has been completed—with multiple segments open, including the Eastside, Westside, and Northside Trails—and eager eyes set on finishing the full loop by 2030.

Why We Love It

It isn’t just a paved path—it’s a cultural heartbeat. Along the BeltLine, you’ll find parks like Historic Fourth Ward and the newly named Shirley Clarke Franklin Park, stunning public art (hello, Iron Column!), pop‑ups, food halls, and events that bring ATL’s creative energy into full view  . The trail has already reclaimed over 1,300 acres of greenspace, contributed to $10 billion in economic development, and is actively working to add more affordable housing along its route  . Whether you’re grabbing a bite at Ponce City Market, pedaling past murals, or dancing at a Lantern Parade—walking the BeltLine means stepping into the very soul of Atlanta.
